Rooftop Nine; A new sunset viewpoint in Ibiza

We were very excited to be invited to a ‘preview night’ at the newly opened Rooftop Nine terrace last night, with the promise of it being an incredible new sunset viewpoint in Ibiza. And we weren’t disappointed!

Sunset watching is a serious business here on the island, and this daily ritual is an integral part of many visitors’ holiday routine, marking the end of a glorious day on the beach and the beginning of the exciting night ahead. We’re spoilt for choice with the countless venues offering an incredible sunset viewpoint in Ibiza, but we figured there’s always room for one more! So we headed over to the top floor of the new four star hotel Sol House Ibiza, across the San Antonio Bay on Pinet Playa beach.

This fantastic 4* hotel is the flagship venue of an exciting new collaboration between the Melia Hotel Group and Andy McKay and Dawn Hindle of Ibiza Rocks; hence its full title of Soul House Mixed by Ibiza Rocks. The concept is all about ‘the Mix’ as the team at Sol House tell us,

“Our team of Mixologists bring together mood-enhancing sound tracks and like-minded people for pool parties by day and Sol Sets by night. Tech connects it all with our ‘Mixed by’ app offering playlists, real-time event info and direct access to our team of Mixologist Hosts.”

Guests staying at the hotel on a Wednesday also get free entry to the Ibiza Rocks gigs at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel in San Antonio town, which is just a few minutes’ by water taxi across the bay.

Up on the roof of the venue, the inaugural ‘Sol Set’ got going at around 8pm and it wasn’t long before we could see we were in for a real treat as the sun started to dip. The roof terrace, with its phenomenal views across the sea and the west coast of the island, is a truly stunning space. Andy McKay told us that up until now it had simply been a flat roof space housing the Air conditioning outlet units for the previous hotel – what a waste of a view!

Now, there are masses of comfy loungers, Bali Daybeds and huge white bean bags arranged around the central bar. The walls are all glass, offering completely uninterrupted views, and there is also an incredible, glass walled infinity pool, giving you the feeling you are swimming in the sea, but high up in the air at the same time. A completely unique experience.

Considering this was being called a ‘Preview’ event, the team were clearly pulling out all the stops. Trays of cocktails and wonderful canapes never stopped doing the rounds the entire night, and there was a fabulous barbecue for those with larger appetites.

As sunset approached, we were right about it being a good’un. The sky lit up in an incredible array of orange, pink and silver, and even long term Ibiza residents flocked to the far end of the terrace to get the premium view of the display.  The original sun-downer DJ, the one and only Jose Padilla of Cafe Del Mar fame, curated the soundtrack to dipping of the sun.

With such a fantastic evening being only the ‘soft-opening’ of this exciting new venue, we can’t wait to see what Sol House Mixed by Ibiza Rocks have up their sleeves for their official opening in July. It’s a really special venue with the most jaw-dropping views, and is something very new and exciting for San Antonio.
