When the Ibiza villas 2000 team reached HQ this morning, there was much uffing and puffing and wiping of perspiring brows. “Blimey!” was the general concensus, “It’s HOT!” So we were entirely unsurprised to see today in local newspaper, Diario, that the Ibiza weather is seeing some extreme temperatures this weekend. Yup. We’re talking 34°C, ladies and gents. It’s a heatwave!
Most of Spain will be affected by some extraordinary temperatures, with even more serious orange alerts warning of temperatures ranging from a sweltering 39-42° to be seen across the country. From Tarragona in the north, Madrid in the middle to Seville in the south, it’s gonna be scorchio!
What do yellow and orange extreme weather alerts mean?
According to the MET office, a yellow alert means that severe weather is deemed to be possible which has the potential to affect travel plans and disrupt day-to-day activities. Orange (or amber) alert means disruption is even more likely that could result in serious disruption to travel plans, power supplies and could even have the potential to damage property or put your life at risk.
How could the current Ibiza weather affect my holiday?
If you’re visiting the island this weekend, we’d recommend very light clothing, staying hydrated by regularly sipping at a non-alcohol drink (you can always alternate with your fav tipple too, ahem) and plastering on the sunscreen. We’d also recommend staying out of the sun between 11am-3pm when the sun is at its highest, wearing good quality sunglasses to shield your eyes from damaging UV rays and wearing your coolest holiday hat.
Pets and kiddies
Without preaching to the choir, it goes without saying to take extra care with children and keep ’em out of that midday sun and the hottest of the temperatures. Take care to lock car doors and close windows, to avoid children or pets becoming trapped in the vehicle. However short a time, cars are dangerous heat traps.
Beware of reflections
Even if you’re in the shade, you can still get sunburned if you’re close to water or bright white surfaces as the UV rays are reflected. So if you’re particularly sensitive to sunlight, even if you’re sat in the shade, stay covered up or make sure you use high factor sunscreen and avoid getting stung by this weekend’s extraordinarily hot Ibiza weather.
If you do go out it the sun at any time and you’re either in the sea or a swimming pool, remember that the sun rays will be magnified. Make sure you use a waterproof sunscreen that won’t wash off and be careful to shield your head if you’re submerged for extended periods. Stay safe out there, folks and just before we go, here’s a nice bit of heatwave music for y’all 😀
