7 cool things to do in Ibiza for a tenner

things to do in ibiza for a tenner

Sounds like a joke doesn’t it – because we all know a holiday in Ibiza is capable of breaking the bank! Unless of course, you are an Arab Sheik with a fleet of haute-couture decked wives to match the haute-couture decking on your fleet of yachts!  Do cool things to do in Ibiza that cost a tenner (or less) actually exist?

We can all dream – floaty silk kaftans billowing in the expensive breeze, supping Champagne cocktails on said superyacht. But here in the real world of mere mortals, even just a beach day can mount up to a bit of a shocker.  Throw in a sunbed or 2 and you can easily be penniless come sundown.  Ouch!

Don’t get us wrong – we love a bit of luxury at Ibiza Villas 2000. Indulgence is necessary on holiday, right? All that hard work during the year means it’s time to treat yourself. And it’s totally possible to do that for a tenner or less, we say! Might mean meeting a hippie or two along the way, but hey, when in Rome…

1. San Jordi Market

Every Saturday morning 09.00 – 15.00 at the Hippodrome in San Jordi.  One of THE things to do in Ibiza. Think massive car-boot sale where good vibes fill the air and drummers jam in the sun.

Discover a plethora of bric-a-brac, clothes, art, electronics, antiques, kid’s toys, you name it!  Whether decorating your super yacht (ahem) with cowhide cushions or looking for inexpensive trinkets to take home as gifts, you’ll find something here!  Hand-me-down heaven, along with brand-new items and even a few local artists.

Take a coffee in the cafe OR spend your tenner wisely and kit yourself out with a whole new wardrobe!!  Seriously, San Jordi is CHEAP AS CHIPS and you’ll find many a 1 euro bargain bin.  You’ll only wish you’d left more space in your luggage!

2. Es Vedra

What to say! Whatever Es Vedra is, this magical rock standing off the southwesterly tip of Ibiza holds a certain power that’s undeniable. Some would tell you it’s the most magnetic point on the planet, after the North and South Poles. Or that planes cannot fly over it.

A mystery indeed, its healing qualities are rumored to be true.

Who knows, but put a few bocadillos (Spanish for a hearty sandwich served on a baguette) and some fluids of choice in a picnic basket, gather your nearest and go find out! You can view it from the magnificent cliff-top or the lower, child-friendly beach with café and renowned seafood restaurant down on Cala D’Hort.

3. Casita Verde

When 10 euros feels like a golden ticket for Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory!

Open every Sunday from 2pm, Casita Verde in the Southern campo is run by ‘green issues’ powerhouse, Chris Dews. “An experiential eco-education centre for the study and application of permaculture techniques.” Sounds like school! This, however, is no ordinary school. This is Willy Wonka meets Peter Pan meets the world at the top of the Faraway Tree!  Except the chocolate is locally-produced carob and the tree is right there!

Learn about sustainability, free energy and building homes from empty wine bottles (yes, really) on the informative tour, chill, eat (lunch is served from 2-4pm) and soak up amaaazing views.

The place is truly something. A magical, sprawling array of eco-homes; a teepee, tree house, Mongolian yurts and even an underground cave!  It cannot be described – you just have to go.

For 10 euros enjoy a plate of local, organic, vegetarian food, the free tour and LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP for Casita Verde!  Fresh-from-the-field Aloe Vera juice and carob brownies cost extra but at 2 euros each, you’re almost throwing money at the charming eco-warrioress asking.

4. Luxury Natural Clay Treatment at Aguas Blancas beach.

Baby soft skin for FREE

Some things to do in Ibiza require some (slightly) outrageous behaviour. Hedonism this is not – total opposite in fact. Aguas Blancas beach on the North East coast is popular with local families and hippies alike. Cliff-wrapped, soft sand and clean, turquoise waters make it heaven.

However, occasionally, ‘green people’ will pass by, covered in what looks like mud. They are not insane, just enjoying the health-bearing properties of the local clay; thin stripes of pale green in the cliffs behind the beach.

Grab some water, wet the rock and get scraping! Spread the muddy mixture all over your body and face, taking care of your eyes, et voila! A swanky 300 buck ‘full body detox’ treatment without the chemicals or the price-tag. Lounge like a lizard ’til it dries and jump into the sea to wash off. The result? Put it this way: we would pay 300 bucks for it. The cost? Not a cent.

5. Las Dalias

The uber cool hangout, famous as Ibiza’s original hippie market, in the North, near the sleepy village of San Carlos. Their ‘menu del dia’ is a brilliant bargain at only 9.95! This includes 3 courses, a drink, bread and aioli and a smiling waitress! Creative menus vary daily with vegetarian options and local delicacies. Frankly, fantastic, fresh grub for the price! Mon-Fri only.

Or browse their hip market on a Saturday and have coffee and cake instead. Quality, hand-crafted, artisanal products and treats.

For decadent nightlife, you can’t beat the institution that is Namaste at Las Dalias – totally hippie, totally amazing and totally free!! Every Wednesday from 9pm.

6. Walking Ibiza

Fancy a hike? Fresh air, incredible scenery and a really good way to meet nice people. With a suggested donation of (you guessed it!)10 euros, Walking Ibiza guided tours were started by Toby Clarke, a long-time resident who famously walked the entire coastline of the island, camping along the way. For more info on the next walk visit their website.

7. Stay at home!

There’s no shame at all in just kicking back at home in your Ibiza Villa. You’ve treated yourself so why not enjoy the island’s offerings right here with your family and friends by the pool – sun, fun and …um…how much Cava can you get for 10 euros?
