Ibiza restaurant review | Cesar’s beach bar – great food & bohemian vibes

Cesar's beach bar Ibiza

Cesar’s beach bar is an Ibiza institution. The island sees many businesses come and go over the years, it’s a rare gem that sticks around for 45 years and continues to go from strength the strength.

Nestled next door to Nikki Beach Club and ME Hotel on S’Argamassa beach, Cesar’s beach bar is a diamond in the rough. This picturesque Ibiza beach bar has been in the same family for 45 years. But this year Cook Ibiza chef Simon Johnson takes over the kitchen to bring you a new menu with local ingredients served in the simplest, freshest way.

The Ibiza villas 2000 team went along for the opening yesterday, expecting to stay an hour or so. In fact, yours truly used to live right behind this unpresuming beach bar and enjoyed many a relaxed evening there, sipping chilled wine and gazing out to sea.

Fresh & locally sourced

But wow, this year Cesar’s beach bar have upped their game with the addition of Mr. Simon Johnson and his renowned love of fresh, locally sourced ingredients. We feasted on tender, succulent entraña steak, served perfectly medium rare with delicious chimichurri made with the proper blend of ingredients so rare to find outside of Argentina! The range of vegetarian dips served with fresh local bread and hand-friend sweet potato chips were mouthwatering.

Down-to-earth prices

Next came freshly caught local fish, fried in a light batter and served crunchy & piping hot with hand-cut chips from locally sourced potatoes. The whole feast was topped off by a delicous, tangy cheeseboard, with homemade fig chutney, fresh bread and savory biscuits. A glass of wine cost the down-to-earth price of just £3.50, a beer the same and a bottle of water £1.80. This Ibiza beach bar will definitely not break the bank and that dear reader, is an increasingly rare phenomenon here on the island!

Live music and DJ Howard

Suffice to stay, we stayed all afternoon, enjoying the great live music that was laid on and a characteristically brilliant DJ set by one of our favourite Ibiza deck maestros, the very funky DJ Howard. The vibe was relaxed as adults chatted over their cocktails and kids ran hither and thither, playing on the beach and tucking happily into their fish n chips. An absolutely blinding day out was had by all, ladies and gents.

Healthy breakfasts

Open 7-days a week for healthy breakfasts (Açai bowls, fresh fruit & granola etc). Or if long, lazy lunches of fresh fish, local meats and vegan options are your thing then you’ll be in heaven. Of an evening, tapas, nibbles and cocktails are served beneath the palm-leaf covered terrace, with beautiful views over the east coast of Ibiza.

Conscious eating

Simon’s new menu marks this chiringuito out as one of Ibiza’s conscious eating hotspots. Suppliers are mostly either friends or family and the produce where possible is local and fresh. For those who love the traditional Ibiza vibe be sure to go along for a César´s famous ‘Paella Show’ every Wednesday and Sunday at 13.30. Expertly cooked delicious giant country style Paella on an open fire. The Ibiza Villas 2000 verdict? Highly recommended!
